 The Lowe Family

I want to make sure that I'm clear about this, we are not an official charity, we're just a family who wants to help.

My name is Ben Lowe and I live in Arnold, Maryland with my wife, five kids and my mother-in-law. The other night I was watching the new with my family and they were discussing the disaster in Haiti.  The news caster mentioned that the current estimate was that OVER 500,000 people are HOMELESS and that there are probably OVER 100,000 people DEAD.  That struck me hard, there are around 500,000 residents in DC, and a little more in Baltimore.  Imagine if every home, apartment and hotel in DC was destroyed in less than a minute.

I know a lot of Haitians, in fact I haven't met a Haitian that I didn't like.  This really hit me, and I couldn't stop thinking about what could we do to make a difference.

I mentioned this to my wife and 13 year old daughter, and while we were talking about it, we came up with the idea of doing a 'SUPPLY DRIVE" and marketing it through the web, email and Facebook.  My 13 year old said that she wanted to print up some flyers and bring them to school with her. Soon afterwards, my 9 year old son and 7 year old daughter wanted to bring them to their schools too.

Since then the whole family has pitched in to help get this going, everything from calling, emailing and Facebooking, to researching and planning.

I invite you to join our family in making this Supply Drive a success, we need help with moving, coordinating, storing and marketing this campaign.  If you are interested, please send me an email and we will gladly contact you. My email address is benlowe@jabem.com or you can contact my wife (Megan) her email is MeganLowe@jabem.com

Some things that would help with this drive are:

  • A big truck for storing and transporting items
  • People to go 'Door to Door' asking for donations
  •  People to print up flyers and give them out
  • People to help with the inventory so we know exactly what we receive
  • We probably will need more space for storing this stuff
  •  More schools that are interested in participating
  • People to send emails to all of their friends and families
  •  People to invite other people on Facebook to support our cause

Unfortunately we don't have a lot of time, there are over a half of a million people who need help right now.

Thank you,

Ben
